Maharashtra Mandal Kansas City (MMKC) was established in 1995 by a group of families who sought to preserve their cultural roots while building a home away from home. Since then, MMKC has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and celebrating the heritage of Maharashtrians and Marathi-speaking families in the Kansas City metro area.
As a cultural and social hub, MMKC provides a platform for members to connect, celebrate festivals, and showcase their talents through diverse cultural programs. In addition to community-led events, the Mandal also brings professional programming—such as Marathi movies, dramas (नाटक), and concerts—to give members an authentic cultural experience.
Through its efforts, MMKC continues to promote the Marathi language, traditions, and values, while strengthening the bonds of community for generations to come.
MMKC organizes five signature events each year, bringing the community together through cultural celebrations and social gatherings.
Festival Celebrations – Major festivals are marked with stage performances by members or external cultural programs, followed by a community lunch or dinner.
Annual Picnic – Held at a local park or activity center, the picnic offers a fun day outdoors with games, activities, and light “snacky” food.
Makar Sankrant & General Body Meeting – The Annual General Body Meeting is traditionally scheduled alongside the Makar Sankrant celebration, combining cultural festivities with organizational updates.
These events not only preserve our traditions but also strengthen community bonds, offering opportunities for every member to participate and celebrate together.
Additional events are at discretion of current committee, membership and budget constraints. Some of the events are organized by other regional organizations, and MMKC supports these initiatives.
